Transforming Procurement

The challenge facing the global procurement industry

The pressure is on! For procurement functions to transform from a cost and efficiency focus to becoming true strategic partners, creating opportunities, embracing technology and driving value, throughout the supply chain, for the organisation.

The question is how? How do we free up time for that more strategic and complex thinking? How do we objectively measure what tasks and activities are true value-add and which can be digitised? And once we understand, how would we implement?

A Digital Transformation roadmap through Cognitive Lens

Cognitive Lens is an online system built to analyse:

Where tasks can be automated, to free up time for people to focus on higher value activities.

To reduce time spent on routine tasks and focus on value creation.

Developed by Jakob Mainert, Ph.D., Professor of NEW WORK, Berlin Business School, over several years and deployed in blue chip organisations. Translated into an online solution by the team at Prelude, who have a background in designing and building online assessments.

The Cognitive Lens methodology is underpinned by an end to end, detailed model of the work of the procurement function. The work is broken down into processes, activities and then tasks. Those ‘at the sharp end' rate each task on its level of ‘complexity’ and ‘collaboration,’ and the average time spent per year, so that absolutely everything can be visualised, understood and objectively measured.

The Results

Interactive data analytics

In-depth analysis of all the Process, Activities and Tasks undertaken within the procurement function.

How do we spend our time?

Where is the team spending their time?

Is the team spending time and effort on the right areas?

Which tasks lend themselves to digitisation?

The lower the complexity and collaboration scores, the greater the opportunity to reduce time spent on these activities through digitisation.

Tasks further towards the bottom left corner are more likely to be ‘low hanging fruit.’

Calculating time saved

Identify specific tasks to digitise, streamline, delegate or outsource.

See the hours of quality time released!

Which can then be focused on driving value for the organisation.
